NIRSA Nor-Cal Workshop - Friday July 29th, 2011

The Well at Sac State is proud to host the 2011 NIRSA Nor-Cal Workshop. This workshop is a free event for all recreation professionals and students featuring facility tours and the opportunity to share ideas and build the network of recreation professionals in the Nor Cal region through educational sessions and activities!

Guest Speaker: Tony Asaro
Community Relations Liaison for the Sacramento River Cats

Tony Asaro is entering his 12th season overseeing River Cats Community Relations. The River Cats Community Relations department is active in the community 233 days out of a possible 365 days per year, hosting school assemblies, field trips, parades, youth sports openers, fine arts and music, award assemblies, banquets, hospital visits and sports clinics. Every year, Tony hosts more than 150 assemblies and speaks to more than 160,000 students.  Tony works directly with the River Cats Foundation, Inc., Sacramento River Cats Home Run Tours, Triple-A Assemblies, non-profit organization fundraising, community days at Raley Field, Youth Baseball Camp and the River Cats Speakers Bureau. The primary focus of the River Cats Community Relations Department is to provide programs with an emphasis on children and families. Tony graduated from La Sierra High School and Sacramento State University. Through his career, Tony has served as a Youth Program Director for Northeast YMCA Sacramento, a Career Center Counselor for San Juan Unified School District, a Community Schools Director for SJUSD and a small business owner in Sacramento. Tony and his wife, Nanci, have four children and three grandchildren.

  • Business Casual dress is recommended but keep in mind the average weather in Sacramento for July is Sunny and 94 degrees.

Parking

Valid CSU or UC parking permits will be accepted by University Parking and Transportation Services.  Please email Marc Falkenstein at marc.falkenstein@csus.edu with how many permits you will need to cover all the attendees from your institution. 
 

Daily parking permits can be purchased from the various sparking kiosks located throughout campus and the cost of a daily permit is $6. These machines take $1, $5 as well as Visa and Mastercard credit cards. Parking Lot 8 and Parking Structure III are the most convenient to The WELL.

Accomodations

For those of you interested in turning your visit to an over night here are some hotel recommendations:

The hotel that is closest to campus, clean, nice and includes breakfast and WiFi is the Larkspur Landing.  Rates vary $90-$149.

If you are interested in exploring downtown Sacramento which is about 5 miles away from campus, the Holiday Inn is a good choice.  Rates vary from $95-$130
